He completed his MBBS
from Govt. Medical Collage Patiala in December 1993, followed by MD in
Radiotherapy from AIIMS, Delhi form 1995 to 1997. This was followed by
senior-residency till 1999.
During this period he
cleared DNB (radiotherapy) and has to his credit 9 publications of which 4 are
in International Journals.
; He was part
of the historical NOLVADEX international trial (Roche) and presented the
results in Geneva in 1998. He started his practice in Chandigarh in 2000 as
a Palliative Oncologist. In 2007 he was the first Indian Individual without any
external support to set up a radiation unit attached to a Multispecialty
Hospital-Siemen PRIMUS dual energy with electrons. This brought the first
easily accessible state of the art of cheap
treatment to the poor. This is the Ist and only private setup in the
Chandigarh/ Mohali/Panchkula belt.
With the number of patients helped in 2014, he setup a
dedicated radiation treatment and training centre in Mohali – Behgal Institute
of Information Technology and Radiotherapy. Here he setup a Electa compact with
IMRT, IGRT facility and a brachytherapy unit. Currently he is the Director of 60 a bedded centers and has a
hospice unit-the first of its kind in Northern India.
His main aim to open the dedicated radiation centre and
hospice is

He was able to achieve this with the help of his wife Dr. Kanwaljit Chahl, a surgical oncologist.Together they are able to deliver the best and latest of Brachytherapy and teletherepy and hospice care to the average Indian.
